My newest series focuses on the many ways that we define and manifest the authentic self. My work explores themes we struggle with, such as mental health, societal expectations, and isolation. There is also an exploration of the duality inherent in human nature, expressed through both the conscious and subconscious. While looking at my images, I hope the viewer can be a participant in creating their own personal narrative.
I have always been drawn to storytelling as a means of exploring and illuminating the human condition. My artistic life began with writing fiction, but I found myself moving toward poetry as I strove to distill narratives to their bare and essential essence. It seems that photography was the next logical step in that process. I have a particular fondness for the strange and stark beauty of landscapes.
I received my MFA in creative writing from Florida International University, where I also served as art director for Gulf Stream Magazine. My debut novel Fragile Saints was a finalist for the 2022 CAL Book Awards. My poetry chapbook Vortex of Our Affections was published in 2017 by Finishing Line Press. My images often appear alongside poetry and prose in literary magazines. I am currently an artist member of D’art Gallery on Santa Fe in Denver.
