Divided Sky Angelfire New Mexico by Chris Vann
As long as I can remember I've been different. I seemed to see things more vividly and feel things a little more intensly. I always felt like an outsider and never seemed to fit in with the rough and tumble boys club that I was born into. As I grew older I realized that this blessing that was bestowed on me was the vision of an artist. The ability to see something where others see nothing. The ability to create, share, and change perspectives. With this realization came a journey to self awareness and a path to artistic freedom.
But even today as a published, recognized artist who has sold work all over the country I still struggle with my value as an artist and the value of my work. I see other artists around me racked with the same self doubt and struggling with the motivation to create. Artists who are hurt by and afraid of the judgment of their work. Judgment that can seem cruel and oppressive. I see artists that struggle to push through their self imposed boundaries.
Today more than ever it's important for artists to realize not only the quality of themselves but the quality of the work they create. Its important to practice self care and not get lost In the overwhelming tide we face everyday as artists and as people. It's important for us to continue to find beauty where others see none. To share this beauty, change perspectives, and let the creativity flow through us.
